Hoplite Training

This week we have been learning about Ancient Greek warfare.  We learned about why they needed an army and a navy; how their infantry, called hoplites, fought during city state's disputes;  and even became historians, examining artifacts to learn more about this area of Greek history.

We even did some hoplite training of our own.

We learned why it was important to fight in an organised and strategic manner known as the phalanx.
But, we were no match for the army of Miss Mapp and Mrs Tredwell!

So we learned about how the Greeks also used catapults, battering rams and crossbows to help the conquer other lands and people.
